            language here &#8212; and the lack of periods at the ends of paragraphs &#8212; suggests
            that Hone's mind may have been slipping, despite the self-deprecating humor of the final
            paragraphs. A "Brighton Chair," incidentally, was an early wheeled chair sometimes

            <p>I was not aware you had written to <ref type="person"
                target="whoswho.html#RollestonFrances">Miss Rolleston</ref> &#8212; She was here in
              June, &amp; promised <hi rend="underline">&#163;5 for next year, &amp; &#163;5
                annually</hi>.</p>
            <p>I have news of another Translation of Faust, sold by Smith, 1/6</p>
            <p>Your Archaisms anon &#8212; <hi rend="underline">anon</hi>, Sir, with the &#163;2 for
              Shepherd</p>
            <p>Think on David's followers &#8212; such are the United Brethren here</p>
            <p>I ride in a Brighton Chair, get fatter, more helpless, and more laconic. <ref
                type="person" target="whoswho.html#FryAlfred">Mr. Fry</ref> came to see me on
              Sunday.</p>
            <p>We have a sort of influenza here which kills suddenly &#8212; I miss my Doctor
              &#8212; the <hi rend="underline">voluntary principle</hi>, in medicine, is without
              action.</p>
