        <p> The accompanying pamphlet notices some animadversions on me in your <ref
            type="publication"><title>Proofs of Inspiration</title></ref>.<anchor xml:id="a"/><note place="bottom"
            resp="#KG">The "accompanying pamphlet" refers to Hone's <ref type="publication"
              target="../../bibliographical/annotated.html#AspersionsAns-24"><title>Aspersions
                Answered</title></ref>. This brief note is a much worked-over draft of a letter to
            Rennell. Certainly the letter was sent, as it received a cordial reply from Rennell on
            <date when="1824-02-17">17 February</date>. Rennell had written critically of Hone's <ref type="publication"
                ><title>Apocryphal New Testament</title></ref>, and Hone's pamphlet addresses many
            of Rennell's arguments (see especially <title>Aspersions Answered</title>, pp.
            39ff.). <ref target="#a">[return]</ref></note> If you do me the favor to consider its transmission to you before its
          publication on Saturday as a courtesy &amp; will <unclear>[one word]</unclear> to excuse
          the rough appearance of a hurried copy. </p></div>
