        <p> Notwithstanding the interview I had with you when I put into your hands <ref type="person">Mr Godwin</ref>'s note
          of introduction,<anchor xml:id="a"/><note place="bottom" resp="#KG">See the letter from <ref
              target="1818-02-13-frGodwinToPlanter.html">Godwin to Planter, 13 February, 1818</ref>.
            It is unclear why the present letter should be dated over two years after the original
            Godwin letter. <ref target="#a">[return]</ref></note> stating my wish to be admitted to the library of the British
          Museum in the manner usual to persons, who, like myself, pursue literary inquiry, it
          occurs to me that it may be <milestone unit="folio" n="139"/>proper to reduce my desire to
          writing, and you will oblige me by considering this note as a respectful application which
          you have kindly assured me you will lay before the Trustees of the Museum at their meeting
          on Saturday next. </p>
