            <p> I find I cannot leave London as I purposed, to attend the Fox Norwich Dinner<anchor
                xml:id="a"/><note place="bottom" resp="#KG">An annual dinner held in <ref
                  type="place">St. Andrews Hall, Norwich</ref>, in honor of the celebrated statesman
                  <ref type="person">Charles James Fox</ref>. The 1820 dinner, held on <date
                  when="1820-01-24">24 January</date>, was particularly noteworthy for an extended
                discussion of Peterloo and other matters regarding "The State of the Country." The
                proceedings of the meeting were published in the <ref type="publication"
                    ><title>Norwich Mercury</title></ref> and then excerpted and published as a
                separate pamphlet. <ref target="#a">[return]</ref></note> &#8212; and have only time
              to say this &#8212; and that the occasion of my remaining is the Man in the
                Moon<anchor xml:id="b"/><note place="bottom" resp="#KG">Hone's <ref
                  type="publication" target="../../bibliographical/annotated.html#ManMoon-20"
                    ><title>Man in the Moon</title></ref>, begun in December of 1819, was published
                on <date when="1820-01-20">20 January, 1820</date>. <ref target="#b">[return]</ref></note> which requires a <emph
                rend="underline">personal</emph> superintendence &#8212; I assure you I promised
              myself great pleasure in seeing you but it "must not be." </p>
